I'm so sorry for the lack of website updates! Since November I've done my best to keep parents updated with critical info using my weekly homework sheet. If you haven't seen one of those come home in yellow folders on Friday, please let me know!

Attached to the homework sheet sent home on March 10th was a parent conference letter that suggested a meeting time. Please be sure to connect with me about a parent conference meeting. Those meetings will take place the week of March 27-31st. Keep in mind, 3/30 and 3/31 are half days for students to make time for conference meetings.
Parent Teacher Conferences for the first trimester will be held the week of December 12-16. Thursday and Friday of that week are HALF DAYS to allow teachers time to meet with parents, but I'll be also holding a few meetings after school Monday-Wednesday.

Please check out available conference times and feel free to email me your preferred times. I'll do my best to accommodate specific requests and if you don't see a time that works, please let me know and we can work together to find one that does. I'm looking forward to meeting with parents in person again (!), but I'm also happy to have a Zoom or phone conference, if requested. See you all soon!Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences 2020 — Oct. 27 & Oct. 29

The Scholastic Book Fair returns in person to Monument next week, October 17-21! Students will be able to shop the book fair online or in person all next week. Families can take advantage of a convenient, cash-free option called eWallet. To shop the fair online and/or to set up a student's eWallet, visit this link. As always, students can pay for books in cash as well.

11/18-11/25 Scholastic Book Fair! - Crete-Monee Early Learning Center

Currently the book fair is looking for more parent volunteers. Interested parents can sign up here

Second grade will visit the book fair during their regular library time (Tuesday, October 18th from 10:45-11:30). Students can also return to the fair later in the week. The fair will wrap up Friday, so all book sales will finish Friday morning and the fair will be packed up in the afternoon.

If you have any specific questions about the book fair, please contact our classroom parent Carol Burnor ([email protected]) or our school librarian Mrs. Ann Marie Witt ([email protected]).

Thanks to all second grade family members who were able to join Mrs. Cauley for Sundaes on Mondays this past Monday, October 3rd. We had a great turn out! October is a busy month of both in-school and afterschool activities in the Monument community. Here's a rundown of what's coming up:

  • Friday, October 5th is a field trip for second graders who have earned World Traveler status with their passport. We have a few students who have stamped all seven continents by earning 50 honey drops seven times. Details will be sent home with eligible students.

  • Monday, October 10th - NO SCHOOL for the Columbus/Indigenous Peoples holiday.

  • Week of October 17-21 - Scholastic Book Fair. Look for details in yellow take home folders on Friday, October 7th.

  • Tuesday, October 18th - PICTURE DAY

  • Thursday, October 27th - Harvest Night at Monument featuring Trunk or Treat and many other fun activities. Details coming soon.
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the open house barbeque yesterday afternoon. It was nice to see many parents in person. If you missed it and you'd like to visit the classroom or meet with me, please just send me an email and we can easily arrange something.

I wanted to share that we do have a second grader with a significant allergy to tree nuts in the room this year. You can find more information in this letter and I'll send a paper copy home on Friday.

Students should also have a copy of my homework letter in their yellow communication folders on Friday. Please check out the letter and the attached homework sheet. I'll do my best to post homework sheets on the Homework page of this site in case they are lost.
